Family Law Summer Associate – 2025

HLG is looking for a talented Family Law Summer Associate to join the team Summer 2025!

We place a huge emphasis on individual talent and development, and our robust Summer Associate program gives aspiring attorneys real life exposure to the practice of justice in Washington State. The position will include extensive motions practice and drafting training as part of our commitment to providing the highest quality representation to the clients we advocate for. Our office is remote / hybrid operated. Employees can expect to work from home 1-2 days per week, though we initially emphasize in-person training when onboarding new team members.

Responsibilities

  • Managing case deadlines in a fast paced environment;
  • Assisting and attending hearings and depositions;
  • Assisting attorneys to prepare and file motions;
  • Execution of legal and procedural research;
  • Managing and interfacing with firm clients;
  • Assisting paralegals in their duties;
  • Tasks as otherwise assigned;
  • Field work as required.

Requirements

  • Hard-working, able/willing to work with the team after-hours and weekends when cases demand;
  • Should be a team player, level-headed, professional, and not take themselves too seriously;
  • Willingness to learn at all times, and the ability to ask questions when needed;
  • Must have presence, discretion, self-confidence, be sincere and trustworthy;
  • General familiarity with the legal system and a willingness to learn more;
  • Enrolled and in good standing at an ABA accredited law school;
  • Primary interest in Family Law practice after graduation;
  • A strong alignment with our mission and values;
  • Should be highly motivated and self-driven.

Highly Preferred:

  • Experience with Foster Care, DSHS, or prior Family Law exposure;
  • Cumulative graduate GPA of +3.5, or +50% class ranking;
  • Resident of the Seattle area with ties to the community;
  • Paralegal accreditation or prior work experience;
  • Familiarity with Clio Manage CRM software;
  • Primary experience in King County, WA.

Pay Range

Summer Associates will be compensated $1,350 – $2,350 per week, commensurate with experience and prior training. A discretionary end of summer bonus of $5,000 – $10,000 is available for those who demonstrate outstanding ability and dedication. We will also buy you coffee.
